Self Confessed/Just A Day Away (Demo, August 2007)

from What're You Looking At? by Nerve Centre

about

So back pre-Nerve Centre, Ronan The Singer was young, and had songs, but didn't have anybody to play them with, so recorded demos in his parents' attic. With grand plans in place for releasing an album, Self Confessed was going to be the second last track, and would segue into a song called Just A Day Away which would be the last track.

Just A Day Away hasn't been seen or heard from since that demo. Until now, where you can listen for yourself to hear why it's not around.

lyrics

Self Confessed

Verse 1:
You told me you know me
You’ve seen my type before
You told me you owe me
For that drink I got before

Pre-chorus
But I don’t recognise you
For anything you say
I must apologise to you
‘Cause I don’t know your name

Verse 2:
You told me you scored me
You’ve held my hand before
You told me you were with me
When we left the disco

Chorus:
Woah oh oh, I’m a self-confessed bastard
Sorry sweetheart, there was nothing here that could’ve last
Didn’t get your number ‘cause I was never gonna call
It’d be great if you could take the hint and just leave me alone.

Verse 3:
You told me you went home with me
We got there about four
You tried to get me into bed
But I passed out on the floor

Just A Day Away

Verse 1:
I just wasted another day
I said it would be different but it was just the same
I think I need a holiday
Yeah I really need a holiday
It’s a long time from January ‘til May
Think I’ll go Liverpool for the day
Yeah I know it’s not quite Spain
But it’ll do just for a day

Chorus:
Oh I need just a day away
Just a day to refresh my brain
Oh I need just a day away
From you, from me, from all this city

Verse 2:
Whenever I decide to get away
I have to take the bus cause I can’t afford the train
I listen to my favourite songs on the way
The ones I listen to everyday
It’s a long time from January ‘til May
I should get anywhere for a day
Wish I had the money to get to Spain
But I don’t and it’s not that much of a shame.
